Cruck Frame Buildings

Gilbert White – the first ecologist?
Gilbert White (1720 to 1793) has often been labelled the first ever ecologist. He was a curate in Hampshire and Wiltshire and was an extraordinary observer of the natural world, keeping meticulous records of both the weather and the natural world around him. Even when he was away from home on church business he arranged for others to keep up his recordings.

RFS walk - University of Surrey
Hidden off the A3 and behind Guildford, the University of Surrey has an amazing collection of unusual trees. These have been planted regularly since the university located here in the 1960s and include Pecan and single-leafed pine.

In-wood chestnut centre
Recently, I joined a Royal Forestry Society “day out” which included a visit to a business which is doing something quite unusual and of great benefit to woodland owners, especially those with chestnut coppice.
