Open Access with Open Woodlands.co.uk

With the spring flower season coming to a close, the beauty of Britain’s woodland is fresh in our minds. There are many woodlands that are open to the public to visit, so everyone can enjoy some time amongst the trees. Some are well-known, but there are also lots of small gems, tucked away, perhaps nearby, which you just haven’t heard about. Whether you are on holiday, you enjoy walking or cycling, or you just need a bit of fresh air somewhere different, how do you go about finding these and find one that suits your requirements?
Open Woodlands.co.uk is a new, free web service provided by Woodlands.co.uk that lets woodland-goers find their nearest open woodland in mainland Britain with ease – no fruitless enquiries at tourist information centres or frustrating scuffles with ordnance survey maps.
Simply by typing in a post code, this new service not only takes the stress out of locating woodlands open to the public, but also provides a description and a link to the website of those who manage it.
You will probably have visited at least one of these open woodlands already. Please feel free to contribute a comment on any woods you have visited, or, if you use Open Woodlands.co.uk to find a woodland, come back and add some information after you’ve been. What’s special about the wood? Is there parking? What are the facilities like, if these are provided? Is it accessible for someone with limited mobility. This sort of information will help build up a picture so others will know what to expect and get the most out of their visit.
We hope you enjoy using Open Woodlands.co.uk, and we hope making it that bit easier to locate public woodlands will encourage more people to visit them and appreciate just what they have, quite often right on their doorsteps.
