Blackmoor Wood - SOLD, Somerset - About 4 ⅓ acres, £35,000

Blackmoor Wood - SOLD

Blackmoor Wood is located in the very heart of Exmoor National Park. This unique environment consists of stunning scenery and rugged terrain where nature can be enjoyed at its unspoilt best.

This young woodland consists mainly of ash, birch and oak traversed by grassy rides lined with hazel. The ground is mainly level or gently sloping with a few steeper sections populated by flowering gorse and heather. This combination of western gorse, bell heather and ling is relatively  unusual and Exmoor is home to approximately one tenth of this heath environment throughout the world.

The combination of young woodland and open grassy heath areas attracts rare peregrine falcons as they hunt for small mammals that thrive here. The nearby north somerset coastal cliffs are ideal rearing grounds for the young falcons.

Blackmoor Wood is also home to the king of Exmoor the red deer. These magnificent creatures are the largest of the UK's indigenous deer species and have roamed wild on the moors for centuries.

The development and stewardship of a young woodland is an enriching opportunity at Blackmoor Wood in this most dramatic of landscapes. Selective felling to thin the young trees will promote the development of the best specimens into maturity.

There is however another aspect of Exmoor to be enjoyed by the visitor. The wild and rugged moorland and farmland is punctuated by idyllic villages and welcoming hostelries. Winsford and nearby Exford in particular have fine examples of the Country Inn and many miles of surrounding moorland footpaths to explore. In particular the ancient river crossing and pub at Tarr Steps is an easy walk from Winsford.

Particulars and plans were prepared by our local manager, Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
