Buckland Wood - SOLD, Somerset - About 6 ½ acres, £35,000

Buckland Wood - SOLD

The tranquillity of Buckland Wood provides plentiful opportunity to come close to the great variety of wildlife to be found in the English countryside. The rarely seen stoat hunts methodically in the ditches and hedgerows, taking to the trees when disturbed. Or the roe deer, always alert, springs up from its daytime slumber in the undergrowth or can be observed from cover as it browses in a clearing.

From the open sections of Buckland Wood a breathtaking panorama spreads from Wellington's Monument to the left all the way to the distant Quantocks. The land then fans out and descends into the valley where mature broadleaf woodland dominates. Beech, holly and the occasional oak provide cover for the fox and badger and the woodland floor lights up with bluebells in the spring months.

Buckland Wood is an ideal place to camp or picnic, with the most amazing views. Secluded yet with good access; lots of wildlife and a great place for family forestry.

During the Napoleonic Wars (1799 -1815), over 100,000 French prisoners of war were held captive in Britain. Unlike eighteenth-century prisoners of war, prisoners of the Napoleonic Wars remained captive for the duration of the conflict and were widely put to task to provide cheap labour for construction projects such as the access track to Buckland Wood that still survives today.

The nearby small town of Wellington stands between the River Tone and the beautiful Blackdown Hills that has a range of local services for the woodland visitor.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
