You are here: Home > Buying a Wood > Central England > Buckler Wood
Buckler Wood is a delightful blend of mature ash, oak and hazel interspersed with occasional conifers. This interesting mix supports a variety of wildlife and creates abundant opportunity for the enthusiastic small woodland owner to restore the hazel coppice, harvest mature larch or benefit from the abundance of available wood fuel. The elusive sika can be found browsing here by the patient wildlife watcher as these deer roam freely through the wood.
Buckler Wood is ready to be enjoyed for the enormous amenity value that it offers for family and friends keen to explore the many shady thickets and sunny clearings that make up this wood, along with an interesting area of grassy heath important for wildflower species such as beak-sedge and marsh gentian.
This wood has easy and level access along a short length of well maintained track into its own parking area and is therefore suitable to visit with a normal family car.
The surrounding area is steeped in history and tradition from its historic roots as a religious centre for the Benedictine Monks at nearby Cerne Abbas where the order thrived for more than 500 years until its surrender to Henry VIII, to the mysterious 180 ft chalk giant carved into the hillside nearby.
These details were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
