Two broad, level tracks which run approximately east to west divide Ashen Cross Wood into three distinct and contrasting sections.
Above the top track, all the way to the southern boundary (and for a short distance below the track) are tall, mature conifers, providing a cool and shady area which in the springtime is carpeted with bluebells.
This then gives way to a wide middle section, light and airy with wispy birch and young sweet-chestnut which offer the opportunity in a few years time to practice some small-scale coppicing or perhaps some green woodworking.
Finally, below the bottom track - which is the main access way into the woodland - there is a mix of mature broadleaves and more conifers. A small stream runs the length of the northern boundary and following the trails made by the animals which visit this area, it is easy to envisage how these trails could be opened up to form a lovely streamside walk.
A smaller track links the top and bottom tracks, winding its way through the woodland. Creating further tracks across the middle section of the woodland would add to the enjoyment of this area which, when ablaze with the colour of flowers and blossoms, is much enjoyed by the butterfly population.
It is rare to spend long in the wood without seeing deer (both red and roe). Other animals such as rabbits, badgers and foxes are seen less frequently, but leave plenty of evidence of their presence!
Songbirds and birds of prey are also to be seen and heard, whilst at ground level frogs and toads plus possiby lizards frequent the cooler, damper areas close to the stream.
Ashen Cross Wood is part of a larger area of woodland set in a secluded valley and whilst having the feel of being far from anywhere is actually just a few short miles from Looe, Polperro and other attractive Cornish coastal villages.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Nearest post code: PL13 2LG
From Looe:
Note 1: Hall Barton is a working farm with livestock and farm vehicles likely to be moving around the yard. Please take great care when driving along the access lane and please ensure that you close all gates securely
Note 2: Delightful as it is, driving through Looe, particularly during the holiday season, can be a bit slow. An alternative would be to follow the A38 west to Dobwalls. At the roundabout take the left turn [signed to St Austell] onto the A390 for about 2 miles, then at East Taphouse turn left onto the B3359. This will bring you into Pelynt from the north
Satnav/GPS note: the postcode PL13 2LG is for Hall Barton Farm and is the point shown by the red dot on the two location maps
