Lamberal Wood comprises two distinct areas. For about three quarters of its area a young (10 years approx) spruce wood slopes gently down towards the northern boundary. The remaining area is flat, rough grassland populated with species such as willow, beech and blackthorn. Mature hedgebanks on three sides of this rectangular wood add to the feeling of peace and seclusion. There are several small clearings within the spruce, perfect for picnics, camping or simply relaxing and listening to the birdsong or watching the buzzards and kestrels above.
A track runs along the southern side and a stream along the northern side. The woodlands were established about 10 years ago and there is a modest income available under the woodland grant scheme for another 5 – 6 years. The spruce planting offers the potential for timber harvesting in the future.
As well as a wide variety of birds, roe deer are much in evidence, along with foxes, badgers, and rabbits. Otter spraints (droppings) have also been found by the stream.
The wood is ideally located for exploring and enjoying much of what the region has to offer. The village of Kilkhampton is just half a mile away http://www.thisisnorthcornwall.com/kilkhampton.html. Water-sports facilities and fishing are nearby at Tamar Lakes http://www.swlakestrust.org.uk/index.php?id=465. North Cornish beauty spots such as Sandymouth http://www.atlantic-heritage-coast.co.uk/Attractions-and-Activities/Beach-Guide/Cornwall/Sandymouth/Default.asp, Duckpool and Coombe Valley are only 3 miles to the west while Bude is just 5 miles to the southwest. The nearest market towns are Holsworthy (10 miles) and Launceston (19 miles).
Note: in accordance with the terms under which the woodland was established, public access to the woods was granted for a ten year period, which expires in January 2009.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Boundaries:
The northern, southern and western boundaries are mature hedgebanks with post and wire fencing running inside them. A small stream runs along much of the northern boundary. The eastern boundary is a line of posts running down through the wood.
All boundaries are marked with mauve paint on posts and trees.
The wood has private gated access near its south-western corner.

From Launceston : take the B3254 road to Bude, passing through the villages of Yeolmbridge and Whitstone to the Red Post crossroads. Go straight across at the crossroads (signed to Kilkhampton) and on through the village of Grimscott. About 3 miles further on the roads bends sharply to the left and there is a turning to the right, signposted to Tamar Lakes. The woods are directly in front of you, identified by a ‘Woodlands For Sale’ board. Take the turning to Tamar Lakes. After about a quarter of a mile the road forks, with the left fork signed Aldercombe Barton. Just before this fork there is a gateway on the left. Park by the gate and go over it, and you are in Lamberal Wood. Alternatively, enter near the 'Woodlands For Sale' signs and walk down the track to your right for about 400 yards until you reach a third hedgebank running across the woods. You are now in Lamberal Wood. From Holsworthy : take the A3072 Holsworthy – Bude road to Red Post crossroads. Turn right for Kilkhampton and proceed as above. The woods are at this junction, as described above.
The northern, southern and western boundaries are mature hedgebanks with post and wire fencing running inside them. A small stream runs along much of the northern boundary. The eastern boundary is a line of posts running down through the wood.
All boundaries are marked with mauve paint on posts and trees.
