From the private entrance gate in the short northern boundary fence, Pulworthy Wood rises gently up to the southern boundary which is a long-established hedgebank.
A broad grassy ride winds its way approximately up the middle of the wood. The ride widens in places into larger open areas where glades could be created or picnic spots established. At the northern end, the ride terminates in a clearing just inside the entrance gate, where there is space for parking vehicles.
Along the western edge of the wood there is a strip of open ground and a stream lined with mature trees which are mostly oaks. For much of its length, there is room for a pathway along the stream and there are also places where the ground widens and levels out by the waters edge; perfect spots for watching the abundant birdlife which frequents the wood. A bench has been situated in one of these spots. There is a secure deer fence all along this boundary (and to the south), but a pedestrian gate has been put in, allowing access to the streamside area.
The main species in this young woodland are ash and alder, offering the prospect of a good supply of firewood once the trees reach the thinning or coppicing stage in a year or two. Otherwise there is a good mix of broadleaved varieties including oak, beech, birch, wild cherry and wychelm.
Despite the fencing, the winter snows revealed evidence of a variety of four-legged visitors to the woodland including deer, rabbits, foxes and badgers.
This is a young wood which will provide endless enjoyment as you watch it mature.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
