Brimford Wood - SOLD, Devon - Nearly 5 ¼ acres, £35,000

Brimford Wood - SOLD

Brimford Wood is an interesting mix of conifer, old coppice and a small area of young planted broadleaves. A level woodland in an excellent location near the north Devon coast.

The entrance to the wood is marked by a entranceway signed "Brimford Wood". Following the track you pass over a seasonal stream of flowing water. Here you walk through an area of young planted broadleaved trees with mixed ground flora, an excellent habitat for birds and invertebrates.

You will then enter the more established part of the woodland with conifer trees, mainly spruce, to your right and an old hazel coppice to your left.  The copse area is marked on the old maps suggesting it has been worked for firewood, charcoal and other produce for many decades. The hazel has been left unmanaged and is now quite mature and some or all could be harvested for woodworking or firewood.  Nests and nibbled hazel nuts can be found within the wood showing a presence of either wood mice or possibly the elusive dormouse. The conifer areas of woodland are peaceful and easy to work in and would give the purchaser scope for small-scale forestry projects, and places to explore and play with the family.   There is plenty of wildlife and both red deer and foxes frequent the woodland.

Brimford Wood has an old drainage system in place providing a flowing water feature.  This has created pockets with lush vegetation which, if opened up, could allow the creation of small ponds within the wood.  Along the northern boundary frogs can be spotted in abundance at the right times of the year - Autumn and Spring.

Access is along the track but there is a much closer entrance by foot from a quiet road marked on the plan.

The local area around Brimford Wood is ideal for touring and holidaying with the stunning north Devon coast within about 4 miles of the wood. The nearby village of Hartland has good facilities such as shops and pubs. The village is a good point to access the south west coast path with amazing geology and views of the sea lining the way. The Island of Lundy can be seen on a clear day and a trip to see this Marine Nature Reserve can be made from the nearby town of Ilfracombe.

Another picturesque coastal place nearby is the historic fishing village of Clovelly. The towns of Bude and Barnstaple are within easy reach with an excellent range of shops, cafes, cinemas and things to do and see. You can also access the Tarka trail from Barnstaple, a 22-mile cycle on an old railway line which is nice and flat! The Tarka Railway runs from Barnstaple giving good links to Exeter and mainline routes. You can access Barnstaple on the A361, which links directly to the M5.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
