Great Bean Wood lies within the Blackdown Hills - a group of hills lying on the border between Devon and Somerset. The Blackdown Hills were designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1991 for their ancient landscape features and special habitats. Many special species of animal and plant can be found here.
The Wood is named after one of the two lime kilns that were active nearby - "Great Bean Hay" and "Little Bean Hay". Great Bean Wood is between the villages of Bishopswood and Yarcombe each with a pub and local accommodation. The nearest small towns are Chard (5 miles) and Honiton (7 miles). The south coast beaches and Jurassic coast resorts of Lyme Regis, Seaton, Beer or Sidmouth are each a short drive away.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Boundaries: The boundaries of Great Bean Wood are marked in red.
