You are here: Home > Buying a Wood > Devon > Old Star Wood - SOLD
Old Star Wood is nestled in the mid-Farway valley, a beautiful part of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has a mix of well managed, straight-growing conifer timber including Douglas Fir, Spruce and Western Red Cedar at an impressive height and size. There are also some well established broadleaved trees mixed within the woodland, most notably some Ash trees. The woodland is well thinned allowing easily exploration alongside numerous opportunities for the creation of a camping base, fire pit, green woodworking area or rope swings for the children!
Along the northern boundary of Old Star Wood is a ravine created by a long established spring. This spring provides a source of running water throughout the year for the woodland owner. Upon the slopes down to the ravine there are some good secret hideaway places as well as more broadleaved trees, great for the biodiversity of the woodland. You will also find a bench conveniently located within Old Star Wood providing a place to just sit and relax to the sound of the bubbling spring.
The stunningly peaceful location is not only to be enjoyed by the woodland purchaser but the local wildlife you may encounter during your golden time within your wood. Buzzards have nested in Old Star Wood and butterflies including the speckled wood have been seen in the warmer months. Fallow and Roe Deer can be observed in and around the woodland. Numerous fungi can be found in the autumn.
There is a well-made stone pitched track leading to the wood from the road-side giving potential for timber extraction should you wish to harvest.
Old Star Wood is located in a beautiful area near Ball Hill, which is convenient for the Jurassic coastline. The coastal towns of Sidmouth and Lyme Regis are both nearby. The market town of Honiton is just a ten-minute drive providing a good range of shops and a train station. The Hare and Hounds pub is within a couple of miles and has an excellent beer garden within lovely views - a good place to restore your energy after an enjoyable day spent in your own woodland!
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
