LeMay Wood - SOLD, Northamptonshire - About 2 ¾ acres, £32,000

LeMay Wood - SOLD

LeMay Wood is part of an ancient woodland which means that woodland has existed continuously here since 1600 or before.  Ancient woodlands are rare and beautiful: they evolve over long periods of time giving them a special aura and LeMay Wood is no exception as it is a beautiful mixed broadleaf woodland with evidence of old coppice. There are some outstanding mature oaks and ash along with hazel and other shrub species.

LeMay Wood is easily accessed via an attractive woodland ride passing other areas of private woodland. The woodland is mostly flat with a very gentle gradient towards the southern boundary keeping it well drained and ensuring its use throughout the year. A deep ditch runs down the woodlands western boundary and across its southern edge effectively cutting the wood off from its neighbours on these sides and giving the woodland an important riparian area for wildlife diversity. The woodland is home to an amazing variety of wildlife including roe and muntjac deer, hares, badgers and foxes. Also buzzards and tawny owls can be found here. Woodcock are evident during the winter months.

Open farmland lies close to the south east corner allowing the morning sunshine to bathe and warm the woodland.  Bordered to all sides by further areas of private woodland; LeMay Wood is both accessible and private.

Because this is a special woodland it is protected as a SSSI (site of scientific interest) This does give a new owner the satisfaction of knowing that they will be the guardian of a wood that forms part of our national heritage.
