If I were to describe my perfect area it would have a river running next to it for me to camp beside and cast a float in hope of a bite. It would be easily accessible yet feel secluded and remote. It would be wild in structure and most importantly it would be filled with wildlife. Muntjac Meadow satisfies all these dreams..
Once you leave the A11 a short drive down a winding country lane brings you to the woodland gate. From the gate a hard track runs next to an old hedgerow before you cross a culvert and enter into the water meadow.
The meadow runs from the right of the track down to the gently flowing river Thet. About a third of the meadow is taken up with a poplar plantation that has now reached maturity and sway gently in the wind.
The river bank is raised and totally private. Occasionally a muntjac deer may amble up it or if you are really lucky you may also see the local red deer cross the river.
I have seen red, roe and muntjac deer on the meadow and it seems that its tranquillity has helped it become a haven for these elusive animals who thrive here. The best time to spot the deer is at dawn and dusk as they feed on the meadow.
The meadow is private with no public access or footpaths.

Directions
- From Norwich take the A11 towards Thetford.
- After passing Attlebough continue on the A11 then take the road sign posted East Harling and follow signs for the Angel Inn.
- Go past the Angle Inn, which is on your left and the road will cross back over the A11.
- You will pass South Farm on your left at a sharp bend. Continue down the lane which becomes more narrow and after a short distance a lane will appear on your left called Mill Lane.
- Turn into Mill Lane and continue down the lane past Woodlands house on the left and then a few more houses. The road bends again at the stables but carry on past Mill House. ( Which has two gateways.) and just after the house take the rough track directly in front of you.
- At the end of this track park to the left of the large oak tree.
- A Five bar gate will be at your left with a sign on it. Climb over this gate and walk down the new track to the woodland. Please keep to the track as the fields surrounding it are privately owned.
- The track will cross a culvert before entering into the meadow/ woodland area.
- Muntjac Meadow is on your right.
- Coming from Thetford on the A11 head towards Norwich and take the signpost to East Harling then follow signs for the Angel Inn back under the A11. Then follow directions as above.
