Stags Wood is approached via a beautiful woodland track which runs through the heart of this ancient woodland. Once within the wood one can appreciate that this is a special place offering peace and quite from the outside world.
A mostly broad leaf woodland with oaks, hazel and ash being predominant. Other tree types include hornbeam, field maple and sycamore.
This woodland should be viewed to appreciate its true beauty, being level with good access and easy to walk through. With plenty of open glades this woodland has much to offer for family forestry.
Stags Wood forms part of an area of unique Ancient Woodland set in a peaceful and quiet rural location surrounded by open farm land to the south of the historic village of Flixton.
The woodland was coppiced in the past and this has led to some amazing trees that now have grown into unusual shaped multiple stemmed trees. A wide variety of flora including wild garlic, toadstools and orchids further enhance the woodland at different times of the year.
This woodland is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, it is quite rare to find four different species of deer all present in the same woodland, these being Red, Roe, Muntjac and Chinese Water deer. Hares, Badgers, Foxes, Buzzards and Tawny owls can also be found here.
The woodland is believed to have historic and medieval associations with a former Augustine Abbey at Flixton Priory.
As this is a special woodland and is protected as a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). A new owner will have the pleasure of knowing that they are the custodians of a nationally recognised woodland.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
