Coed Mynwy has three very distinctive areas which are: (i) the young regenerating broadleaf, (ii) an area of pine and (iii) some pockets of old veteran trees with some stands of old coppice.
The young regeneration is thriving with a wide variety of young trees, predominantly silver birch, but there are also many willow, hazel, rowan. During the early spring it is possible to see the woodland floor covered with bluebells and snowdrops. You can also see small pockets of young gorse, bracken, ferns, mosses and fungi at various times through the year. This provides a great nesting area for small birds, such as robins, wrens, blackbirds, blue tits, jays and woodpeckers. The other wildlife that have been spotted include rabbits, pheasants, foxes, muntjac, sparrow hawks and owls.
The pine area which is predominantly Corsican pine has some very thick areas that give great cover for wildlife, such as the ravens which nest here. One very satisfying 'family forestry' project would be to create some open clearings. Over a short period of time a buyer would be able to see the difference in the ground cover due to the light that would be able to pour through, giving way to bluebells, snowdrops, ferns and many other wild plants.
The third area is the pockets of older broadleaves which are dotted around the woodland: these attract the owls and woodpeckers. They also encourage a new spread of young saplings which are taking root such as ash, beech and oak. These saplings can be left to spread through the woodland naturally, or could be moved at a young age to different parts of the wood to diversify the tree species.
Near the Southern end of the wood there is an interesting disused quarry that could be used for camping or woodland activities.
Access to the wood is along a hard standing track that runs along the full lengh of the wood. This is also known as Three Castles Walk.
The woodland is protected from development by a local authority designation, but this does not prevent active management and enjoyment of the wood.
Skenfrith, Grosmont and the Three White Castles are nearby. The nearest towns are Monmouth and Abergavenny for local amenities.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

From Monmouth (A40) take the Rockfield road (B4233 ) out of the town, but note there is no sign on the second roundabout, take the right exit here. At Rockfield fork right. Look out for the sharp right hand bend signed to Skenfrith by Rockfield village sign - go left here along the minor road towards Abergavenny and Cross Ash until reaching the B4521. Cross this road and continue up the hill to the next cross roads, go straight on and follow the minor road. You will see a 'Woodlands for Sale board' on your left. Just after the sign take the sharp left turn next to the house. Follow this road for about 1 mile until you see another 'Woodlands for Sale' board on your left. Park here and walk up the track into the woodland. The wood will be on your left hand side as you walk up the track.
