This young regenerating woodland has a variety of broadleaf trees, predominantly silver birch, but you can also see willow, hazel, rowan, oak, beech and the occasional spruce. Ferny Wood has been untouched in recent years: there is now a thick density of young broadleaf trees. This gives a great feeling of privacy and seclusion, especially towards the eastern boundary where there is a flat open space that can be used as a camping/picnic and woodland activities area.
A new owner could create some walkways and clearings, not only to improve access through the woodland, but also to further benefit the diversity of the flora and fauna.
Along the eastern boundary there are impressive views of the open countryside. There are small areas of bracken and ferns along the fenceline where the Muntjac and roe deer take shelter and have good access to the neighbouring fields and sloping valleys.
There are many different varieties of ground cover here such as bluebells, snowdrops, wood sorrel, ferns, lichens and fungi.
The wildlife that has been spotted recently include rabbits, pheasants, foxes, woodpeckers, Muntjac and roe.
Access to Ferny Wood is along a good track that leads to a large open hard standing area. There is a track that then runs north that forms the northern boundary.
The woodland is protected from development by a local authority Article 4 designation, but this does not prevent active management and enjoyment of the wood.
Skenfrith, Grosmont and the Three White Castles are nearby. The nearest towns are Monmouth and Abergavenny for local amenities such as shops and some great pubs.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
