Coed Penlan - Penlan Wood - SOLD, Gwynedd - Almost 3 ½ acres, £19,000

Coed Penlan - Penlan Wood - SOLD

Coed Penlan is a private and secluded woodland. From the main road entrance there is a short vehicle track and then a footpath with a few rustic bridges leading to the entrance to Coed Penlan. A path then meanders through the wooded areas to open out onto a large clearing. This clearing could be used as a ‘base’ for woodland activities such as processing timber, camping, bushcraft or simply enjoying the woodland environment.

The majority of the trees are young silver birch but there are also oak, holly, willow and rowan growing here. There are some natural open areas that could provide an opportunity to plant new tree species to further the biodiversity of the woodland. Because this is a young woodland it is possible to enjoy forestry activities using more traditional methods by using hand tools instead of power tools.

Some of the wildlife seen and heard include owl, buzzard, fox, badger, woodpecker, duck and many songbirds.

In the natural clearings there are many different types of mosses and ferns growing and also bilberry, heather, bracken, bluebells and in the winter months, many different varieties of fungi.

Coed Penlan is situated on very flat ground because the land was once a salt marsh, being part of the Glaslyn estuary, and was reclaimed and drained after the building of the cob in Porthmadog in the 1800s. This now leaves the woodland placed in a dramatic setting, on the level plain of the river and also surrounded by the peaks of Snowdonia. The level ground means that the woodland can get the sun for most of the day and it has a bright and very open feeling.

Nearby is a great country Inn called the Brondanw Arms, and Porthmadog is nearby for the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway to Snowdon and local amenities.

Another place of interest nearby is the famous village of Portmeirion.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
