Byshottles Wood is located close to the pretty historic village of Brancepeth with its castle  and is also near to Durham.  There are fine views across the gentle valley which is mostly open farmland with woodland  and being south facing the wood catches most of the day's warming sun.  It has close proximity to the road for easy access yet it is quiet and secluded and the ideal place for peaceful observation of wildlife and the surrounding countryside.

When you arrive at the woodland there is a level area which is suitable for parking and a short path which directs you onto a large flat section at the top of the wood.  This section of the woodland is covered in openly spaced and large straight-grown trees and has a light an airy feel.  The woodland floor then slopes off to the east and west down to the boundary which is formed by a stone wall. The trees close to the boundary are more closely spaced and generally younger in age giving these two boundaries a denser feel.   The trees growing within the woodland are predominantly large larch and pine but growing amongst them there are plenty of rowan, birch, beach, sycamore and occasional oaks. Along the south and west boundaries there are plenty of beach and some oak some of which are quite large and full of character. Some interesting plants can also be found growing around the woodland, there are honeysuckle, fern, wood sorrel and plenty of foxgloves dotted around.

Access to Byshottles wood is provided via a gate at the roadside and along a grassy ride. Once at the wood a further two grassy rides pass along the northern and eastern boundaries.   

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
