Description: Duncren Wood is peaceful and private with a varied character. Entering the wood, one passes under spreading mature oak trees amid a belt of spruce which provides a green buffer to the track.
The canopy opens up at a birch copse with a mossy floor supporting a rich variety of fungi and lichen. Beyond this, more of the typical widespread oak trees create a really magnificent English woodland.
The elevated position of Duncren Wood affords views from the eastern boundary across pasture land and down into the dale.
Further along the track, a sunny open glade in the spruce with bracken is a good place to view some of the diverse wildlife emerging from the wood.
Access to Duncren Wood is from Starkbank Road over the woodland track shown green on the plan with a full right of access.
Sporting rights: come with the woodland and are included in the sale.
Location and Surrounding Area: Extremely picturesque and desirable area. Duncren Wood is part of Ellingstring Plantation just outside the small village of Ellingstring in Lower Wensleydale, one of the Yorkshire Dales, between Masham and Leyburn.
A scientific description of the area, Yorkshire Dales Natural Area can be found on the Natural England website. Click here for a description of the Nidderdale AONB (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) special landscape designation.
The moors to the west and north are especially interesting being designated as a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and a SPA (Special Protection Area, an international bird designation). Sheep graze on pasture to the south and east.
Being high on the edge of the moors, it's wild in winter, beautiful in summer while the amazing views across the dale to the hills of the North York Moors can be enjoyed year-round.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
