A sheltered evergreen woodland where in summer months the heat of the sun brings out the scent of pine while in winter the sound of wind in the trees-tops enhances that sheltered feel so often found in woodland.
The level ground supports the straight grown pine and spruce with their year-round green, the larch a deciduous conifer, has needles of brilliant green in spring and golden yellow in autumn. Birch trees with their white bark are finding their way up throught the conifers adding another dimension to the woodland.
The glossy green of the rhododendron contrasts with the delicacy of the honeysuckle, these and the ferns provide cover for wildlife such as woodcock and roe deer. Tawny owls can also be heard and occasionally seen within the wood. Wood sorrel, an ancient woodland indicator species, and renminiscent of shamrock, is widespread on the woodland floor.
Access: to Grinkle Wood for vehicles is directly from Grinkle Lane through its own gate marked with red and a ‘Woodlands for Sale’ sign. A private track leads to a turning head / parking area. From here the wood is easily accessed on foot.
Local information: the closest village is Loftus which has a small supermarket and a number of pubs, further afield the coast has some spectacular cliffs and great beaches and the popular tourist destination of Staithes is only four miles away.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
