Description. Located within three miles of Cleveland’s Heritage Coast, Potash Wood is growing on fertile soil amid picturesque and quiet countryside.
The woodland which is roughly triangular in shape consists predominantly of native Scots pine, larch and a few spruce planted about 30 years ago and now stand tall and strong. Growing amongst these trees are plenty of birch, some willow and with seedlings popping up locally. Oak and beech seedlings are present but only in small numbers, a new owner might encourage them by creating a little more light and fitting tree guards giving them a head start over the deer living in the wood.
Some interesting plant species are growing in the woodland, ferns are very common but you will also find honeysuckle, wood sorrel, some gorse and an occasional holly.
Sightings of deer should be no problem to the quiet observer. Woodcock, tawny owl, woodpeckers and many other woodland birds can also be spotted.
The woodland floor is undulating but quite accessible and is crossed with deer paths which are easy to follow. There are some natural clearings and also space to park a vehicle with a camping place nearby.
Access to Potash Wood is from the road via a shared woodland track (ride). There is a ride-stop with a routered name sign at the entrance.
Local information:- the closest village is Loftus which has a small supermarket and a number of pubs, further a field the coast has some spectacular cliffs and great beaches and the popular tourist destination of Staithes is only four miles away.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
