Description: Fergus Wood is a wonderful birch and rowan woodland with significant mature beech, oak, hazel, larch and other trees surviving from previous generations of woodland management. There has been successive coppicing in the past with many multi-stemmed specimens evident. Towards the northwest of the woodland there are some delightful natural glades harbouring resident and migrant birdlife such as wrens and redstarts, and browsing roe deer with fawns at foot in season. Ferns, heather, lichen and mosses adorn the ground layer adding to the serene nature of Fergus Wood. There is scope for opening up more glades and paths, and the wood could suit many amenity purposes including private camping, firewood supply, nature hides and general leisure. Internal access is provided by the 70 metre track along the edge of the neighbouring wood to a turning and private parking area.
Access: There is a full right of access along a private track leading off the public B977 road as shown in green on the detailed maps. The last part of this access route is across a field track more suitable for 4WD vehicles.

Surrounding Area: Fergus Wood is part of a long-established woodland known as Forrester Seat Woods some of which is on the Ancient Woodland Inventory. The woods rest on the hillsides of the sweeping valley which has the majestic River Don flowing through it. Hatton of Fintray and Newmachar villages, and the Kirkhill Forest and Formartine and Buchan Way cycling and walking routes are nearby. The coast and secluded beaches of Balmedie and Newburgh, as well as Dyce, Inverurie and Aberdeen, are all within 20 minutes' drive.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Fergus Wood is situated near Cothal a couple of miles between Hatton of Fintray and Dyce off the B977.
- Travelling westwards from Dyce on the B977 and after arriving at Cothal hamlet take the right turn signposted "Rose Valley" 30 metres before the red telephone and post boxes on the right where you will find yourself on a gravel track.
- Head up this track for about 200 metres and take the first left and travel another 300 metres along this track entering woodland and park in the parking area on the right before the wooden gate with the "Woodlands For Sale" sign in front of you.
- Walk through the wooden gateway and follow the track towards and right round the beacon building and then towards the right hand of the two metal gates. Go over the gate and follow the hard grass track across the field (see "Please note:" below) next to the stone dyke wall on the right as shown in green on the detailed map heading 100 metres north to the entrance to Fergus Wood.
- Please note: Please be aware that young cattle are currently grazing in the fields so any dogs should be kept in the car. An alternative (dog friendly) viewing path is shown on the detailed map with small red arrows leading from the parking area around the outside edge of the fields to the wood.
