Description: Meadhan Wood is a broad swathe of mainly spruce, Scots pine and larch conifers planted about 25 years ago and a smaller area of open heather-covered ground and broadleaves, mainly birch and rowan, to the northeast. The open aspects from the southwest, east and northeast boundaries present some wonderful distant mountain views (viewpoints as shown on the detailed maps) towards the top of Loch Tummel and the Schiehallion Munro.
Overall the land ranges between 300-335m above sea level. An inner network of brashed private paths linking the lower clearings and northeast glade have been created, and this could be extended further.
Glacial rocks and boulders are strewn throughout the wood and also feature in the open glade and heather areas either side of the internal deer fence (which can be accessed via the wicket gate as shown on the detailed map). A further small area of mainly birch, willow and rowan in the southwest corner of the wood adds more diversity and light. Over time, the spruce could be thinned, producing some firewood, and be gradually replaced with suitable native broadleaves, evergreens and shrubs.
The new internal track leads about 80 metres into the wood to a clearing and turning circle, ideal for camping with family and friends, peaceful contemplation and recharging one's batteries. There is also a small clearing opposite the wood about 70m further up from the ridestop entrance affording southerly views over to the ridge of the majestic Schiehallion.
Access: After turning off the B847, there is a full right of access over a shared track leading up a gradual incline to Meadhan Wood. It is suitable for cars with reasonable ground clearance and 4WD vehicles.
Wayleaves and Third Party Rights: Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) have a right of access over the shared track to reach the small sluice dam, owned by SSE and situated in the woodland above.
Sporting Rights: These are fully owned and included with the land.
Surrounding area: Meadhan Wood is part of the old Creag Dhubh Forestry Estate which is situated just above Dunalastair Water on the lower south-eastern slopes of the Corbett, Beinn a' Chuallaich. The surrounding area is renowned for its natural highland beauty including the ancient Caledonian Pine woods (Black Woods of Rannoch), series of Lochs (Rannoch and Tummel), cascading rivers (Tummel and Garry) and classic conical shaped Munro (Schiehallion). The area offers a range of opportunities for land or water based outdoor pursuits from hill-walking to mountaineering, boating (for sailing or fishing) to rafting. Local native wildlife includes grouse, red deer, red squirrels, pine martens, capercaillie, cross-bill and various birds of prey. There are also many interesting fungi, insects, birds, lichens and other plants indicating a healthy and diverse ecosystem and making the area a destination of choice for conservationists and biologists. Creag Dhubh is a wonderful spot in which to relax, feel the senses come alive and take in some of the purest air and most beautiful scenery in Scotland.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
