Caple Wood - 5 acres, £19,000

Caple Wood

Description:    Caple Wood is a smaller scale amenity woodland bisected by a shallow, seasonal gully sweeping down the middle of the wood. On the west side of this natural channel is a grass and fern glade that is surrounded by clusters of mixed-aged noble firs, rowans, ash, birch, cherry, sycamore, alder and oak trees up to 20-25 years old.  There are also good partial southwest views to the sea lochs from the west side. To the east of the shallow gully the trees are denser providing shelter for the internal access track and parking and clearing.   Wider rides aid access through this section of woodland and provide peaceful walking and nature corridors underneath the noble firs.  In the lower areas of Caple Wood watercourses converge with the central gully to create some wetter habitat areas before continuing down to supply a small reservoir for the neighbouring Ardencaple Farm.

Access: exists for all purposes via the shared track southeast of the woodland together with an access for forestry purposes via the west of the woodland from the Rhu village side.

Sporting rights: are included.

Surrounding woodland & area: The Ardencaple Woods are in a south-facing position on the north shore hillsides of the Gare Loch. The thoughtful planting, first started in 1985, and management practices since then have created a pleasant balance of mixed-age trees, flora, open spaces and a variety of colour throughout the year.  Its semi-rural location puts it within easy reach of Central-West Scotland and nearby facilities, yet it is still private and tranquil. There are ancient tree remnants within the wood to the east and neighbouring the wood to the west. A commercial conifer plantation called Highlandmans Wood borders it to the north. Various water features in the way of trickling and flowing burns are spread throughout. The neighbouring open fields, verges and nearby woodlands provide ideal habitat for various wildlife including sparrow hawk, owl, roe deer, buzzard, woodcock, pheasant and kestrel which are often spotted visting Ardencaple Wood.

Local facilities and supply services are available at nearby Rhu and Helensburgh.  Balloch, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and Glasgow are all within an hour's drive.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
