Description: Carrick Wood is well-situated providing unimpeded southerly views, and a peaceful retreat for connecting with the great outdoors and pursuing hobby forestry. The trees comprise mainly young Spruce, regenerating Larch and many broadleaves. At 150m above sea level, the ground is on a relatively gentle south-east facing slope and well drained, with sufficiently deep soils on top of rock ensuring good tree growth. There are camping/parking areas at the edge and sheltered middle of the wood for refuge when spending time managing and relaxing here and taking advantage of the sunny aspect. There is scope for continuous cover management, with protection of the natural regeneration of local oak and other native tree species. The magnificent red deer browse, and there is diverse bird life in the vicinity. The woodland is surrounded by farmland to the west and conifer and mature Oak woodland.
Access: Access is via a hard stone private track leading off the A714 over which there is a legal all-purpose vehicular right of access, shown green on the plans. The track skirts around most of Carrick Wood's perimeter. To the west, leading off this track, is a packed earth internal track accessing the sheltered middle of Carrick Wood.
Mineral Rights: These are owned and included with the land except where reserved by statute.
Surrounding Area: Carrick Wood is perched at the head of the Daljarrock Forest in mixed woodland and rural hillside settings in the pretty River Stinchar valley. There is a great variety of wildlife in the valley, including red squirrel, red deer, roe deer, otters, badgers and reptiles, and birds from blue tits to buzzards, plover to peregrine. Many nearby walks and the tranquil unspoilt environment make the area perfect for nature and general outdoor enthusiasts. A walk up Knockdolian Hill provides panoramic land and sea views and the new long-distance walking route - The Carrick Way - is scheduled to open very shortly. The huge Galloway and Carrick Forests can be explored further to the East, and the coastal town of Girvan, and shingle beaches at Woodland and Ballantrae Bay, are within 10 miles to the West. Nearby Pinwherry and Barrhill villages have local services whilst Colmonell and Dailly have forestry mills/suppliers too. Ayr, Stranraer and Newton Stewart are within 30 miles.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
