Description: Gemmel Wood is an appealing woodland with direct road frontage and a mixture of trees mainly comprising young conifers and birch regeneration to the west and older conifers and broadleaves to the east. There is scope to create a flourishing woodland habitat and replace the majority of maturing Sitka and Norway Spruce with native species over time. It is possible to walk and explore along the entire boundary.

Access: is taken from the B974 through a shared single gate entrance and then along a hardstanding shared private access track over which there is a right of access for all purposes.

Thornton Woodlands: which Gemmel Wood is part of, are situated in idyllic, historic and very peaceful rural surroundings. The trees are a diverse mixture of species and ages and have been sympathetically managed. Currently, mature Scots pine, young spruce and birch are dominant, but there are significant areas of mixed broadleaves including oak and alder and Norway spruce. Red squirrels, woodpeckers, pheasant, deer, wild hare and various fungi inhabit the woods. There are grants for encouraging capercaille .

Surrounding Area: Nearby are the tourist villages of Edzell, with its hidden "rocks of solitude" walk along the North Esk river, and Fettercairn with its working distillery. Slightly further afield are Glamis Castle and Lunan Bay beach and the fishing town of Montrose. Dundee and Aberdeen are each approximately 35 mins drive.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

Travelling along the A90 dual carriageway, take the turn off for the B974 heading towards Fettercairn.
Continue past the Sauchieburn Hotel and after approximately 500 metres you will find the start of Gemmel Wood just after Douglas Cottage on your right.
A further 100 metres along you will see the first "Woodland For Sale" sign at a wide bellmouth entrance on your right, defined with wooden fencing rails and a single wooden gate set in some 30m from the road.
Please park here where you will see the orange marked posts on the right of the shared internal access track marking the northern boundary of Gemmel Wood.
