Twall Wood is a splendid area of diverse woodland with great potential for hobby forestry, relaxation and conservation. An internal wall distinguishes the predominant mid-aged (1990) sitka spruce from a long and mature native birch, rowan and oak area adjacent to the public road. There are further young broadleaf plantings in the south-west corner which would provide an ideal spot for some private camping. A second wall defines the southern boundary inside which a new rocky path has been cleared. The trees, including interspersed naturally regenerating larch, are growing healthily and should provide a good supply of green logs or timber as required or during future thinning.
Access is taken off the minor public road just south of the gated bell-mouth. There is a right to stack and extract timber along the electricity wayleave to the bell-mouth.
Surrounding Area: Twall Wood lies amongst attractive wooded and rural surroundings between the Leader and Gala river valleys, both tributaries to the River Tweed. The scenic Lammermuir Hills and Tweed Valley lie further to the east and west respectively. The Royal and Ancient Burgh of Lauder is a thriving town with historical siginifcance lying on one of the main north-south routes used since Roman times. Thirlestane Castle, dating back to the 16th century, is a visitor attraction on the outskirts of Lauder. The coast-to-coast "Southern Upland Way" walking route passes close by to Twall Wood. Edinburgh, Galashiels, Melrose, Selkirk and Coldstream are all within 30 mins drive.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Boundaries: Boundaries of the wood are clear and indicated on the dry stone dyke wall and freestanding posts with red markings.
