It is a delight to wander through such a quiet and peaceful wood. A small seasonal stream, with fern studded banks, meanders through it. You will find a small pond, partly hidden by bracken, in the south of the wood, and there may be scope to add another pond further upstream. The chestnut coppice, being widely spaced, is quite easy to walk through and sunlight readily penetrates the canopy. As well as several fine oaks spread throughout the wood, there is birch, hazel, holly and ash here.

Apse Wood is a Semi- Ancient Woodland, and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a Tree Preservation Order on Apse Wood and surrounding woodlands.

It is accessed from the road and farm track, through a locked gate and along a stoned track. The owner of Apse Wood will have vehicle rights of way along tracks marked green on the map.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

Travelling south on the A22 and just north of Uckfield take the A 272 going east.
On the A 272 go through Buxted and as you enter the next village of Hadlow Down, just before the Speed Restriction Sign, turn right into a track with a black milk churn marked ‘Woodlands Farm’ on it. (If you go past the church on your left, you have gone too far).
Go 200 metres down this track to a pair of double wooden field gates on your right.
Park on the left, opposite these gates. Please do not obstruct this track or gates as they are in constant use.
Go through the post and rail fence by the double gates and walk about 400 metres down the stoned track, which first goes alongside a meadow and then into a ‘S’ bend, after which you will reach Apse Wood on your right.
