As you wander through this woodland you will discover great contrast. To the south is a fine oak glade with hornbeam coppice, to the west you will find some mature oaks with birch and chestnut coppice under storey, and to the north lies a substantial area of western hemlock and spruce, interspersed with oak and poplar. There are many varieties of wildflowers in the wood, the primroses and wood anemones being some of the earlier ones to emerge, followed later in spring by a carpet of bluebells. To complete the picture, a small seasonal stream gently wends its way through the wood.
The diversity of wildlife is illustrated by a Kent Wildlife Trust survey (1976-87) for the wood known as Benacre Wood, of which Bell Wood forms a part, recording up to 125 species of flora and up to 17 species of butterfly. A more recent survey has also recorded 154 moths species present in Bell Wood.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
