This is a very quiet, sheltered wood, protected by its phalanx of robust pine and spruce trees. The southern boundary of the wood overlooks fields and a fine view to the south. On that side there is potential for creating a small pond from the stream trickling across. In this area the conifers give way to deciduous trees - birch, oak, rowan and ash, as well as some nice holly. In one or two more open areas of the wood, the bracken could be continuously cut and the underlying wild flowers and grasses released to make attractive clearings.
The pine and spruce are about thirty years old, and are growing well. They could be left to grow on for many years to come - Scots pine are often a hundred years old or more - or some of the conifers could be felled for timber fairly soon and replaced by native deciduous trees.
On the northern edge of the wood, next to the wayleave, there is an ancient woodbank created long ago to divide one property from another. It is a remnant remaining from former times confirming that this whole area has been woodland for hundreds of years.
Flag Wood lies within Limekiln and Park Woods which is a large woodland area in the High Weald. Deer are occasional visitors to this and the surrounding woodland.
There is good vehicle access to the wood, first along a tarmac byway then an all weather stoned track.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
