Laud Wood, Kent - 12 ½ acres, £55,000

Laud Wood

This is an impressive ancient semi-natural oak woodland. For a couple of centuries chestnut and hazel coppice understorey has provided a regular crop for the owner. At long intervals the oaks have been harvested as well. Currently this is quite an open woodland, with its own internal track, and lots of light coming in from the boundary with the farmland on the north western side. More open areas could be created within the wood by coppicing selected areas of chestnut or hazel, providing useful hardwood supplies, and  encouraging more wild flowers and the butterflies for which the Blean is renowned. It would even be possible to get a felling licence to remove some of the oaks, allowing the remainder to spread their branches and still leave some sunlit patches beneath. Although deep within South Bishopsden wood, Laud is approached easily along a stoned track which can be used (with discretion) in all weathers.

A recent archaeological survey  highlights some interesting features  of the area.

The owner of Laud Wood will have vehicle rights of way along the tracks on the map marked in green.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
