An inspiring wood, in which a seasonal stream, and small ponds provide a great attraction. The mature oaks contrast well with the hazel, hornbeam and chestnut coppice, and wildflower understorey; resulting in a classic English woodland. To the west of Newhouse Wood is a small meadow, helping to bring light into the wood. This woodland has excellent all year access off the lane. A public footpath borders the wood to the north, but there are no footpaths across the wood.
The woodland lies on a narrow lane of the minor road running from Ruckinge to Mersham. Access is through the gateway as on the plan. There is a Tree Preservation on Newhouse Wood and the surrounding woodlands.
