This really is one of the quietest and most peaceful woods we have had in the southeast for many years. It is approached along a remote country lane, and its western edge overlooks an attractive field valley, whilst to the south the adjoining fields roll across the North Downs of Kent. Although Perch Wood is mainly chestnut coppice and oak there are several other species here, including some majestic hornbeam and beech, as well as wild cherry, ash, elder and field maple. There is enough undergrowth to make this wood feel very private, but it is easily accessed from the tracks shown. . Much of the wood to the east is level, whereas the slope to the south and west helps bring light and farmland views to the wood.
Perch wood lies within Oakenpole and Limekiln Woods, which have, reportedly, been in existence for at least the last 700 years. The wood is a Site of Ancient Woodland and is set in and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in a Special Landscape Area (SLA). The soil is flinty clay overlying chalk. On the western boundary lies a small area protected by a Tree Preservation Order.
The owner of Perch Wood will have rights of way along tracks marked in green
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
