This is a beautiful woodland with an attractive seasonal stream running through it. To the north there are some fine beech and oaks towering over the quite steep stream valley. This gives way, further south, to chestnut coppice and birch, with ferns dotted along a more gentle stream bank. The central track could well provide the starting point to form a glade within the wood. Many parts of the wood are covered with bluebells in the spring.

Vault Wood is a Semi-Natural Ancient Woodland, and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a Tree Preservation Order on Vault Wood and surrounding woodlands.

It is accessed from the road and farm track, through a locked gate and along a good stoned track, enabling access to the wood throughout the year. The owner of Vault Wood will have vehicle rights of way along tracks marked green on the map.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

Travelling south on the A22 and just north of Uckfield take the A 272 going east.
On the A 272 go through Buxted and as you enter Hadlow Down just before the Speed Restriction Sign turn right into a track with a black milk churn marked ‘Woodlands Farm’ on it. (If you go past the church on your left, you have gone too far).
Go 200 metres down this track to a pair of double wooden field gates on your right.
Park on the left, opposite these gates. Please do not obstruct this track or gates as they are in constant use.
Go through the post and rail fence by the double gates and walk about 150 metres down the stoned track, which goes alongside a meadow at he end of the meadow you will reach Vault Wood on your right.
