Burn Head Wood - SOLD, Scottish Borders - About 4½ acres, £35,000

Burn Head Wood - SOLD

This mainly larch woodland displays a vibrant green in spring, passes through the strong green of summer and gives way to a glorious golden glow of autumn. Heather and a variety of grasses flourish beneath the light canopy giving an open feel as one walks through the wood.

A recently created area gives a secluded but open view to the south. A few hours spent here should bring rewards of a variety of interesting sightings. It would be an excellent venue for an overnight stop.

An ideal wood for conservation, for wildlife or for outdoor activity.

Access: Is off the A72 along the stone track which leads from the main entrance to a ride-stop at the wood entrance. The track continues into the woodland. It is long and a constant climb but of course the views make well worthwhile!

Sporting rights are included with the land.

Surrounding area: The Tweed Valley in the Scottish Borders is known the world-over for the dramatic beauty of its landscape. The woodland is set in the upper parts of what was the old Glenormiston Estate, in previous generations variously known as Wormiston, Ormiston, Ormistoun and Ormieston as new owners took over the lands. The mansion, Glenormiston House, was demolished in 1956 but a more modest farmhouse of that name still exists. The quality of the area is demonstrated by the numbers who come to enjoy activities on offer: walkers enjoy the Southern Upland Way just a mile or so to the south; anglers the River Tweed with its world famous salmon fishing flowing in the valley bottom while mountain bikers come to two of the best biking centres in the UK - Innerleithen and Glentress. For a sense of history a quick look at the OS map shows a wealth of ancient monuments, hill forts, settlements and cairns. For more recent history, Traquair claims to be Scotland's oldest inhabited house whilst Saint Ronan's well is a popular Victorian spa.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands.
