Description: Maberry Wood is a young conifer woodland planted in 1999 where sweeping south-westerly views across the Duisk and Luce fells can be enjoyed. It is mostly quick growing spruce and larch together with some oak, rowan, alder, ash, cherry and birch.
The trees lie on a gentle slope and there is some open ground along the western and southern boundaries and under the small overhead electricity wire. Internal access is provided by a hard grassy track alongside the Galloway stone dyke wall forming the southern boundary and some rides through the middle and along the perimeter. This part of South Ayrshire has a wild beauty, lots of diverse wildlife and offers some breathtaking and unspoilt sunsets and nightscapes.
Access: is via a shared gate and track up to the south-east corner where it joins the internal access track.
Sporting Rights: These are included with the land.
Mineral Rights: These are owned and included with the land except where reserved by statute.
Surrounding Area: Maberry Wood is situated in a landscape of mixed fell and forest hillside between the Duisk and Cree river valleys. Barrhill and Glentrool villages are within a few miles in opposite directions and offer good local rural services including a railway station at Barrhill. The nearby Glentrool Forest Park , which is part of the vast Galloway Forest, offers a variety of walks including up The Merrick - South Scotland's highest mountain, a section of the Southern Upland Way and amongst diverse forests and lochs. It is also one of the 7 Stanes mountain biking centres providing some great short and long-distance cycling routes. The towns of Girvan, Stranraer and Newton Stewart lie within 15-25 miles.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
