You are here: Home > Buying a Wood > West and South Wales > Allt Y Bie - SOLD
You enter the woodland through a wooden gate and immediately in front of you is a hard standing area suitable for secure off-road parking. Following on from this clearing leads you alongside the western boundary indicated by a fence. The western boundary supports a wetland habitat as the wood slopes downwards from east to west carrying natural springs through three ravines. This area contains a wide variety of plants and trees which thrive in these conditions, such as ash trees. It is good habitat for amphibian species. Surrounded by farmland, this woodland is situated in a pleasant secluded spot.
Originally planted in 1959 for timber production, the dominant tree species here is Douglas Fir, and there are also areas of mixed broadleaves such as oak, ash, hazel and beech. Along the eastern boundary at the top of three spectacular thirty-foot ravines which carve their way through the woodland channelling spring-fed streams, you will find some impressive old Oak and Hazel trees. There are areas to cross each of the ravines along this boundary. Interspersed amongst the trees are some large flat areas ideal for camping, picnicking or just enjoying amazing views over the woodland.
Animal tracks can be found all over this woodland and there are indications that it is used by badgers. The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) have identified Pipistrelle, Natterers and brown long eared bats in the area. Penrallt-y-bie farm close by has also been identified as a likely otter breeding site. This woodland is a nature lover’s paradise with numerous opportunities to spot wildlife.
Allt y Bie is located close to the historic castle town of Newcastle Emlyn which has shops, hotels and some tourist attractions. It is within walking distance (about 1 mile) of Cenarth, a charming little community straddling the river Teifi between Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn with pubs, tearooms and a village shop. Here, the River Teifi has made its way through the hard rocks to produce a spectacular series of waterfalls. It is also a stone’s throw from the west coast of Wales which boasts some of the most idyllic beaches in the UK. Located just 5 miles away is the coastal town of Tresaith, set in a small sheltered sandy bay, where you can enjoy sea swimming and coastal walks. There is also the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife here such as the infamous bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay (a Special Area of Conservation protected due to its marine inhabitants).
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
