Allt y Maen is a fine woodland, mostly of mature Norway Spruce and Red Cedar, on the South East side of a hill just outside the village of Cwmduad. From the main entrance a good hard track leads up to the woodland entrance with plenty of space for parking and turning. A large cabin is situated in the centre of the woodland, built from local timber. The cabin measures 40 feet by 20 feet but does not currently have full planning permission: to be allowed to keep it, a retrospective application for private or business use needs to be submitted and subsequently approved. (Planning permission for residential use will not be granted.)
The principle of using the cabin for a forestry based enterprise has been accepted by Carmarthenshire Council. Alternatively, the cabin could be adapted to serve as a centre for a leisure/recreational business. It is the policy of Carmarthenshire County Council to permit proposals for the development of new outdoor recreational facilities where certain conditions are met.
If required, two additional areas of woodland (over 18 acres in total) are available adjacent to Allt y Maen (Bryn Glas and Coed Blaen-cwm).
A second track runs up behind the cabin to the top of the woodland where the gradient is steep and there are dramatic views across the valley. This track is accessed from the main entrance by keeping to the right along the track (rather than curving left up to the cabin) up the hill and then turning sharp left just past the wooden sign for Bronwydd. Up this hill, two painted stakes and a gully mark the boundary of Allt y Maen.

From Carmarthen take the A484 towards Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn. Carry on along this road and about 2 miles past Cynwyl Elfyd, just before the road sign for Cwmduad you will notice a Woodlands For Sale sign on the left hand side (one in English and one in Welsh).
Park in the layby next to the signs. Walk through the main gate and up the track, taking the track which bears left and up the hill. A wooden sign marks the beginning of the woodland. The main entrance to Allt y Maen is through the gate.
