Coed Allt Goch - Red Hillside Wood - SOLD - 10½ acres, £39,000

Coed Allt Goch - Red Hillside Wood - SOLD

On a south facing hillside, the whole woodland has incredible views over the Bristol channel. For miles you can see the stunning combination of Welsh countryside, stretches of sand and deep blue sea. There are broadleaf as well as conifer trees. On the higher slopes there are many Scots pine which are mature and well-spaced. These allow in light and give the wood an airy feel of openness and space. Sycamore and ash are widespread with some truly magnificent specimens of each. Hawthorn and blackthorn are also present. There are strongly contrasting open areas where the view is most prominent, and vivid yellow gorse is abundant for most of the year, as well as many other spring and summer flowers (foxgloves, bluebells, honeysuckle, rosebay willow herb) and ferns. Animal life includes badgers and rabbits and at least one pair of nesting barn owls. At the far end of the woodland is a small but safe quarry which is useful for getting stone for track repairs. It is also a very peaceful spot. Near to here there is a small stream which forms the western boundary and there is a good track running through the wood with a turning bay and flat areas for camping and woodland activities. (The main track will be cleared during June.  If you visit before this you will note it is quite overgrown). Allt Goch is part of the larger Westmead wood which was formally owned by the Westmead estate. The mansion and outbuildings were demolished after the Second World War, but the "home farm" is still running as a complete working farm. Coed Allt Goch is located close to Pendine Sands, which has good shops and restaurants. Nearby is historical Laugharne, with its castle and strong links to Dylan Thomas ("Under Milk Wood" was set here). Carmarthen is also within easy reach.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

Take the A40 from Carmarthen to St Clears, as you approach St Clears you will see a sign for Pendine on the A4066 (its a slip road to the left). Take this for about 7 or 8 miles, you will go through Laugharne on the way and then will eventually come to the village of Brook. Just after Brook you will see the "Woodlands for Sale" sign on the right. The entrance is about 30 yards after this, also on the right. For viewing you can most easily park in the layby about 50 yards further down on the right. The track is uphill and quite a walk so please take adequate footwear!
