Coed Glannant, Powys - 5½ acres, £29,000

Coed Glannant

Coed Glannant is a mature broadleaf woodland with a variety of different tree species. These include oak, hazel, alder and ash. Glannant Wood is very secluded and quite flat. There are lots of young ash saplings that in a few years time will be ready to be coppiced, which in turn could be used for wood fuel or green wood working. There could also be an opportunity to create some clearings in these areas to use as a base for woodland activities and camping.

Although Glannant Wood is predominantly a flat woodland, where the wood meets the river Tawe there is a steep rocky slope down to the river. On the slope there are great views down the river and there are also some old veteran trees that provide abundant nesting for birds that feed off the river.

Due to the close proximity of the river there are lots of song birds here, buzzard, raven and owl have been seen or heard, and there is also evidence that there are foxes and badgers in the area.

There is a good car park that the new purchaser will have use of when visiting the woodland. The northern boundary of the car park runs along the edge of a deep ravine with a stream that runs all year round down into the river. This forms the southern boundary to Glannant Wood. There is a footbridge that crosses the ravine into Glannant Wood, at present this is the access, however should the new owner want to undertake the project of building their own bridge this could be constructed directly from the car park to lead into the woodland.

The wood is adjacent to the Brecknock Wildlife Trust's Werm Plemys nature reserve. This is an open access reserve, sometimes grazed by Exmoor ponies, and featuring a number of uncommon species of wildflower in its meadows, which provide a habitat for Marsh Fritillary butterflies.

Glannant Wood is located 18 miles from Swansea. The woodland is on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and the Fforest Fawr Geopark. There is a Roman road and several Roman forts and camps nearby.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
