Coed Onnen - Ash Tree Wood, Swansea - 8 acres, £45,000

Coed Onnen - Ash Tree Wood

Coed Onnen is a broadleaf woodland which forms part of the Gower Ash Woods Special Conservation Area, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). A picturesque river runs the length of the woodland, forming most of the lower boundary, and eventually meets up with the Pennard Pill before reaching the sea.

Coed Onnen is mostly Ash with Oak, Sycamore and Hazel trees throughout. It is accessed by a footpath a short walk from the lane. A footbridge crosses over the river into Coed Onnen and a couple of footpaths wind throughout the woodland, one of which leads to the coastal path, so it is possible to walk directly to the stunning three cliffs bay from here.

The woodland is on a hillside which slopes gently down to the rivers edge, where there are several flat areas which would make great spots for watching wildlife. A wide range of plants cover the woodland floor with year round interest, from the early snowdrops, to bluebells in spring, right through to autumn fungi and winter ferns.

There is a restaurant with rooms, maes-yr haf, directly opposite the woodland and the large town of Swansea is close by, with an array of shops, cafes and restaurants. Coed Onnen would make an ideal woodland from which to base adventure and activity holidays and there is much to explore in the surrounding Gower Peninsular.
