Coed Pererin- Pilgrim Wood, Pembrokeshire - About 5¼ acres, £35,000

Coed Pererin- Pilgrim Wood

Coed Pererin is part of a larger planted woodland known as Drim, located near the village of Gelli on the banks of the Eastern Cleddau a pretty river teeming with sea trout, known locally as sewin. The majority of the woodland planting was done in the late 50's and in Coed Pererin overwhelmingly consists of douglas fir with a smaller proportion of grand fir and japanese larch. There is some young broadleaf regeneration including birch, willow and a scattered understory of hazel and hawthorn around the perimeter of the wood. There is fairly significant ground cover of bramble in other parts of the wood.

Almost all of the woodland at Drim is designated as PAWS (Plantation on an Ancient Woodland Site) and during 2016 Coed Cymru are working with the Woodland Trust to offer owners of PAWS a free assessment of their woodland with the aim of encouraging them to maintain and restore some or all of the ancient woodland features of these woodlands. This is part of an Ancient Woodland Restoration Project free of charge to woodland owners and a very exciting opportunity to benefit from the two organisations breadth of experience and knowledge and increase the presence of native species and biodiversity within Coed Pererin. Already wildlife rich, the tributary of the Cleddau running through Drim encourages a great variety of birdlife into the woodland and otters are known to populate the Eastern Cleddau. Any work towards restoring the ecological balance of Coed Pererin's ancient woodland origins will only improve this.

The village of Clunderwen is only 2 miles away to the east, where you will find a village shop, pubs and a rail connection. More pubs, restaurants and a good variety of independent shops can be found in the lovely market town of Narberth 3 miles to the south and the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast is as little as 5 to 10 miles away. There are many fabulous walks in the area including the Landsker Borderlands Trail.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

Coed Pererin lies a few miles north of the A40 between Haverfordwest (10 miles) and St Clears (10 miles). From the A40 take the A478 north for about two miles. Just after you enter Clunderwen and before you reach the 30mph zone, turn left signposted Maenclochog. Follow this road for approx 2.5 miles. Turn left onto road signposted Gelli and follow this round for 0.2 miles, over two stone bridges. The woodland entrance is approximately 100 metres past the second bridge.

After turning off the road you turn into Drim Wood and onto a stone track suitable for a two wheel drive vehicle. This track is a marked bridle way with public right of way. Continue down this track until you reach a cross roads. You will see a two sets of wooden gates to your right marked with “Woodlands for Sale” signboards on them; access to this woodland is via the left hand gate. Continue up this track until it opens up into a large hardstanding area with a stone quarry, where you can park.

To get to the woodland, if the gate is locked, you will have to walk up the gated track that is to your left as you drive into the quarry. Coed Pererin is a short distance along this track on your left. You will see the entrance to the wood on your left marked by a wooden name board and some rustic fencing either side of its parking area.
