You are here: Home > Buying a Wood > West and South Wales > Coed Tew - Wide Wood
Coed Tew sits at the top of a hill surrounded by woodland bordering the impressive Brechfa forest.
The Southern part of Coed Tew comprises well-spaced Larch trees with an understory of Hazel, Rowan, Ash and Holly. The light pours in here through a cathedral of trees onto the woodland floor. This encourages a diverse mix of flora, including Bilberries, Wood sorrel and Bluebells in Spring, as well as many ferns and mosses. The tree canopy above is rich with the chatter of birds and Tree creepers, Buzzards and Woodpeckers have all been spotted here.
Passing through the main gate to the woodland brings you to a hidden, flat clearing which would be a perfect spot for camping or just for sitting on the bench and taking in the peace and quiet of this inspiring place. The Northern part of Coed Tew is reminiscent of scenes from "The Snow Queen", with a maze of ivy-lined Spruce trees which lead through to the track on the East. This opens out across to stunning views of the wooded valley. Following this path it winds down to an area of Oak and Ash trees, with some very fine, mature specimens. A babbling winter brook forms part of the boundary and eventually joins the river Nant Aerau below.
Coed Tew is approached along a little used and secluded country lane which means that it has easy access whilst escaping from the sound of traffic. There are plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding area and both Carmarthen and the M4 are easy to reach from here.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Boundaries: The boundaries of this woodland are marked with peach coloured paint (ignore the fading red forestry marks you may notice on some of the trees).

From Carmarthen take the A485. Once you have passed through the village of Pontarsais, take the second right turn where you will see a sign for hanging baskets. Follow this lane up, it will pass through Pantygof Farm (you may have to open the gate), continue up the lane past the fields. As the lane enters woodland you should look for the WOODLANDS FOR SALE sign on the right and pull into the layby in front of it. The woodland is behind the WOODLANDS FOR SALE sign, and is marked indicatively in peach coloured paint.
