This is a beautiful, semi natural, ancient Welsh Oak woodland with an understory of Hazel, Birch and Rowan and interspersed with a planting of Larch trees. Situated on a sloping hillside there are stunning views across to the Black mountain and plenty of flat areas for enjoying the peace of this enchanting woodland.
Approaching Hen Allt along the top track, just before reaching the spectacular summit, the woodland levels out onto a quiet, flat and very private area where you can really feel the timeless and ancient nature of this woodland. At the brow of the hill the land drops sharply to an area of Larch trees before meeting up to the lower track which has an area suitable for parking.
Land registry maps show a small pond marked out. Although this has become smaller with time, some careful clearing and widening could restore this natural feature which is set within a grove of Hawthorn trees and framed by some interesting rock formations and oaks. Wildflowers typically found in a woodland of this type are commonplace here: Wood Sorrel, Rosebay Willow Herb and in mid Spring there is a literally a mass of Bluebells underneath the lichen and moss covered Oak canopy.
A couple of miles from Hen Allt there is a Red Kite feeding station, and this is evident as they are regularly seen above the hills here.
Hen Allt is situated close to Llangadog, a picturesque town which is just outside the Brecon Beacons national park where there are plenty of opportunities for walking and exploring. Llandovery is nearby, a market town steeped in the history of Welsh princes and castles (the name `Landovery` means `church amidst the waters` and this is clear from the four rivers which surround the town). Here there are plenty of shops, cafes and places to stay.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

From the M4 motorway at Pont Abraham (the end of the motorway as you drive west) take the A483 to Llandeilo. Here join the A40 heading north to Llandovery. After the Little Chef on your right look out for a right hand turning to Llangadog (A4069). Take this turn and continue into the village where you will see signs to Llandovery (A4069). Follow this road for about half a mile until you see a wide entrance on your right which is the lane leading to the Steiner School. Follow this lane (over the cattle grid) and there are three gates leading into the wood. The second of these is to the track that forms one of the boundaries to Coed Glasallt.
