North Pine, Monmouthshire - Nearly 5 acres, £45,000

North Pine

North Pine is found within the very beautiful larger woodland known as Big Wood, much of which has been wooded for at least 200 years, as can be seen looking back through old maps of the area.

There is good variation of tree species throughout Big Wood with much native broadleaf as well as conifer. This is reflected in North Pine although here there is a greater proportion of conifer including Scot's pine, spruce, western hemlock and a smattering of larch.

From the main entrance gate the shared access track winds through Big Wood before coming to the long straight of the western boundary of North Pine. The track bends south and downhill and the entrance to North Pine is just along here on the left. In this southwestern corner of the wood is a large bowl-like clearing, an area that has been quarried for stone but is now greening over, already thoroughly colonised by foxglove. It is level and open to the sun with its southeastern aspect.

Continuing though the back of the parking area at the entrance to North Pine you come to another clearing, also level, this time sheltered on all sides by trees. Stands of ash can be found in the areas to the west and the east of the clearing and well spaced conifer to the far sides of these and to the north. The forest floor supports various ferns, and the open areas are thick with bluebells in the spring. The distinct foliage of foxglove is seen in number here and along the banks of the track, a dramatic sight when in full flower.

Nearby Raglan has petrol station, post office and small shops for provisions as well as a couple of nice pubs and even closer the wonderful Raglan Arms in Llandenny might be worth a visit once you've wiped the mud off your boots..!

North Pine is very well placed for access from the M4 and M50.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

From the M4 - exit at Junction 24 and take the A449 northwards towards Usk.

Take the exit onto the A472 towards Usk. As you enter Usk, just after the start of the 30mph limit, turn right signposted Gwehelog. After 2 miles you will see our "For Sale" board on the right hand side. Take the next turning right, signposted Llandenny. The turning and parking area for Big Wood is on the right after a few hundred metres.

Coming from north of the wood, from the A40, take the turning from the roundabout at Raglan signposted Usk, Gwehelog and Brynbuga. Follow this road for a couple of miles or so until you see a sign for Gwehelog followed shortly by a sign for Coldharbour. The turning to the wood is immediately after this on the left, a very sharp hairpin turn, which is very difficult to take. It may be easier to take the right turn directly opposite and then, taking great care for traffic coming from both directions, traverse the road and continue onto the minor road until you come to the entrance to Big Wood very shortly on your right.

Please park at the gate taking care not to block access and continue on foot through the wood continuing downhill until you come to the entrance to North Pine on your left. The second half of the track is almost certainly suitable for 4 wheel drive vehicles only.
