Pen -y- Banc is located in the heart of Carmarthenshire and accessed via a quiet country lane. A track leads through a neighbouring broadleaf woodland to Pen-y-Banc. There are several very distinctive areas to this woodland, giving much diversity and mixture of habitats. The first part of the woodland is native mixed broadleaf trees with Oak, Ash, Hazel . Further down, the track comes to an end and a little bridge leads over the river and into an open, sunny glade dotted with trees, including a mature crab apple. This meadowy spot hums with insect life throughout the summer months and is especially popular with butterflies and dragonflies. Here the woodland stretches out to a hillside of mature conifer trees with the river running below. An old track, perhaps a horse track, runs the length of the bottom of the woodland.
Below the canopy the woodland floor has a number of Wild flowers in Spring, most notibly a fine display of Bluebells, and an interesting array of fungi in the Autumn. Song birds are plentiful in the Broadleaf area and the Conifer section gives home to the more secretive woodland creatures.
Although this is a very private and peaceful woodland which feels secluded and away from houses and the noise of traffic, Carmarthen is only a couple of miles away and the M4 is close by. Pen - y - Banc is just outside the village of Whitemill , where you will find Merlin's Grove, a woodland at the centre of which it is said to be a cavern which housed Merlin, and also be his resting place. Legend has it that Merlins Grove is where he cast his spells, to which allusion is made by Spenser, in his "Faery Queene:"
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

From Carmarthen take the A40 towards Llandeilo. About half a mile after the Glangwili roundabout take the left turn towards Whitemill / Felin - Wen. Take the first left turn, before the pub, which goes past the school. Continue along this lane and at the staggard junction take the second left, immediately before the chapel. Take the next right and continue along this lane as it goes up hill, levels off, and then descends and the lane will turn sharply left. The woodland entrance is on the left hand side, just before the hairpin bend turns right. Look out for the Woodlands For Sale sign on the gate. Park in the layby here taking care not to block the gate.
