Insurance

Many people don’t insure their woodlands but if you feel more comfortable insuring against third party risks there are two providers that we know of:

Rural Arbor Products

Rural Arbor Products is run by Roger Pittaway and charges around £120 per year.

The Beech Tree Insurance

Beech Tree Insurance, run by Gary Alexander, offers a tailor-made insurance scheme for woodland owners and their workers, whether these are friends and family or employees. Cover extends to working in other people's woods or land and also for equipment such as tools and trailers.

Quotations are based on individual circumstances. To find out more about the insurance and ask Gary questions email gary@thebeechtree.com.

What about fire damage?

It is also possible to take out woodland insurance against fire damage reducing crop value but for most woodlands this is unlikely to be necessary. As Oliver Rackham says in his book called Woodlands, “English native woods burn like wet asbestos.” (page 56). It may be worth considering insuring the timber value against fire for larger coniferous woodlands.
