Chelvey Wood - SOLD, Somerset - About 5 ⅔ acres, £69,000

Chelvey Wood - SOLD

As sunlight filters through the the mature beach and ash it stimulates the growth of young bluebells, wood anemone and wood sorrel on the forest floor. The wood emerging into spring is a glorious array of green shoots growing from the leaf litter. The 'Gallant Soldier' of the daisy family is said to be useful in the treatment of injury and for flavouring in cooking, having originally been introduced to this country from Peru.

Tucked away, in a secluded corner of a larger area of private woodland there are some delightful hidden clearings awaiting discovery in Chelvey Wood. An interesting gully, hidden from view until the last moment runs the width of the woodland before meeting a charming moss clad stone wall that marks the boundary at its western edge. This predominantly level, well drained woodland provides the perfect spot for nature lovers to enjoy some isolation from the world outside and to observe at close quarters the muntjac and roe deer that flourish in this undisturbed corner.

This woodland was originally thought to have been planted in the 1950s and takes its name from a time before this when the land was predominantly rough pasture, part of the nearby local parish of Chelvey from the old English for 'calf farm'. It retains an open character where selective clearing has promoted the growth of the best trees through to partial maturity and will allow for them to further develop through to full maturity for the enjoyment of future generations. Towards the furthest point from the entrance at the southern edge there are however, still areas of much denser cover where a shrub layer of hawthorn, birch and holly now thrive.

The nearby town of Nailsea provides a range of services and there is good road access from the larger centre of Bristol to the North, where nearly everything a new woodland owner might need can be found.

These particulars and plans were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
