Crendell Wood - SOLD, Dorset - About 4 ¾ acres, £69,000

Crendell Wood - SOLD
Crendell Wood - SOLD
Dorset

A peaceful location, an established stream and impressive mature oak trees summarise this most appealing woodland.

Crendell Wood sits deep within surrounding woodland; enveloped by nature and the sounds of the forest, the sense of peace here is almost tangible yet observe carefully and the whole wood is alive with activity.

There is little here to disturb the rhythm of nature. Abundant deer slots ( deer tracks ) mark the ground, squirrels forage in the undergrowth and numerous butterflies busy themselves in sunny clearings. This myriad of animal activity converges at the waters edge of a stream to form well worn trails near the banks where this life giving artery has cut into the soft earth as it passes through. The trickling of this woodland stream that passes through the woodland is one of the few sounds to greet the senses.

A series of delightful clearings flanked by giant oak trees punctuate the dense cover of hazel and birch. A series of old woodland trails can just about be made out amongst the thick summer growth. These routes into the cover of the wood probably date from a time when the woodland was an important source of material for the thriving local hurdle making industry. The wood is named after a nearby local centre of production that in turn gave its name to a particular style of the hurdle making craft. This industry played a crucial role in the development of the local agrarian economy for smallholders that grazed the areas of nearby chalky downland. These woodland rides will be a useful feature for providing access for future stewardship and enjoyment of the woods.

Beyond Crendell Wood this delightful area of countryside is a gateway to the New Forest and south coast where numerous local towns and villages await discovery.

These details were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

From the south, after passing Ringwood, leave the A31 at the B3081 junction signposted Verwood and follow the B3081 north on the Verwood Road.

Continue your journey through Verwood town centre along Station Road, until you reach the roundabout signposted to Alderholt and Cranborne along Champtoceaux Road.

The entrance to the woods is located a few metres along a private road on your right on the apex of this bend. There is a 'Woodlands For Sale' sign by the entrance gate, where you can park (taking care not to cause an obstruction) and continue along the woodland track on foot. (The new owner will be provided with a key access for the entrance gate)

The track continues into the woods, bearing right initially and then left after a few hundred metres until after a further 100 metres or so you will see the name sign for Crendell Wood, and orange boundary markings on your right.

From Salisbury take the A354 Blandford Road for approximately 13 miles and at the roundabout, take the first exit signposted Ringwood B3081. Continue for 3 miles turning left at Parsonage Lane onto B3078 towards Edmondsham.
