Goldcrest Wood, Somerset - About 3 ¼ acres, £45,000

Goldcrest Wood

The area around Goldcrest Wood is enveloped by the gentle undulations of the Mendip Hills as the land rises progressively towards higher ground. These mineral rich foothills were once mined for iron ore but are now characterised by traditional farms and numerous small villages.

The woodland has excellent track access but remains secluded and peaceful by virtue of its position set well back along a private woodland track although still within easy reach of main road network south of Bristol.

In recent years as other woodland in this area has been sold, an enthusiastic community of new woodland owners has emerged and there is plenty of neighbourly help and advice available as a result, along with the added advantage of a regular presence in this secluded rural environment.

The pure air of Goldcrest Wood allows for some interesting woodland flora. In the grassy glades where the sunlight penetrates the tree canopy bluebells and primroses proliferate along with the occasional 'Early Purple' Orchid. Tree species include larch, hazel and birch along with an area of mature beech, where attractive clearings make perfect camping spots amongst spring bluebells. From here an attractive old stone wall clearly defines the eastern boundary.

The diminutive Goldcrest, from which the wood takes its name, is a visitor from the colder climates of Northern Europe during the winter months and its high pitched calls can only be heard by those with the keenest of hearing.

Goldcrest Wood is enveloped by other privately owned secluded woodland, the wider area is rural in character but with the benefit of easy access to both the small local settlements of Nailsea and Backwell and the extensive facilities offered by the metropolis of Bristol.

These particulars were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
